Southside - the final chapter

2012 May - 2016 October

If she woke up at night I was a complete stranger.
It is easy to see why she found waking up with a stranger twice her size beside her terrifying.
We had already found Southside - a really special care home, only a dozen residents, all aged under 65 with severe dementia.  The term care home actually means something - the staff really do care.
To begin with, she was out regularly with the Southside crew - shopping, trips to the Lickey Hills, or Ross on Wye.
Her rapidly deteriorating alzheimer's meant that this only lasted for a year or so, and by October last year, she was unable to get out of bed, and all feeding was of liquidised food from a teaspoon.  It took ages for every meal - but was just part of the care provided.
Thank you Janet, Tracey, Eileen and the team.
